After listening to podcasts and using an app that reads text, these are the main benefits I found:

  1. Reduce screen time - when listening, your screen can be turned off.
  2. Multitasking - your eyes and hands are free for other tasks.
  3. Save your smartphone battery life.

1. Reduce screen time

Listening to three articles a day saves me an hour of screen time. It doesn't matter if the article is on my smartphone or laptop, I just listen to it when the screen is off. That's how I give my eyes a rest.

2. Multitasking

Instead of sitting and staring at the screen my eyes and hands are free. I can go to the kitchen and cut a salad or going for a walk. It gives me a feeling of freedom.

I did a little research: I read a 20 minute article - it wasted me 9% battery. The next day I listened to the same article (with the screen off) and it wasted only 1% battery! You must try, it's amazing you can end the day with 80% battery.

  • I found this to be a good way to put children to sleep. There are tons of stories online.
  • Listening while doing routine tasks: Driving, Washing dishes, Laundry, Working out etc.
  • Better understanding of the content when listening.

  • After you have installed the app, look for text to read online.
  • Long press, select all text and copy.
  • Past it in the app.
  • Turn off the screen and listen.
